Music Director / Pianist - Duties & Responsibilities

 

To provide excellent delivery of high quality inspiring music for the assigned services, including special functions and retreats.

Work with minister to provide a seamless, themed experience that uplifts and touches hearts.

Creative in developing events/experiences which allow for broad participation of congregants.  Co-create with minister and others to plan and execute an inspiring uplifting program that supports those present in their experience of the presence of the divine in and through them– in contemplation, celebration, sorrow and loss – the full spectrum of the human experience. These programs include but are not limited to: Sunday Service, Christmas Eve, Burning Bowl, Good Friday and Easter, World day of Prayer, etc. 

Develops music ministry by involving members of the congregation in ensemble groups including adult choir and children’s choir. Recognizes and encourages and develops performance potential in individuals participating in the music ministry.

Select Music for Sunday services (based on minister’s input, talk titles).

Secure, direct and supervise song leaders, supporting musicians

Direct Choir

Establish rehearsal times

Coordinate stage set-up and equipment

Coordinate program elements with Sound Team

Prepare programs for special events such as Christmas Eve, Easter etc.

Attends a weekly meeting with minister, a weekly staff meeting, and meetings with other planners/participants as needed.

Works within budget; submits weekly check request as needed according to office schedule for the band, special guest musicians, and audio personnel. Order music for choir and renew our annual Music Rights with Empower Music and Arts.

While not required, from time to time there will be opportunities to provide music for memorial services and weddings.  Compensation for these events is provided by the families as a “gift” and we do suggest an appropriate amount based on what is requested and/or expected for the service by the family.

Any request for time off must first be approved by the Minister and if it is determined that a back-up is needed, please plan to find another pianist to fill in.
