Becoming a Member of Unity of Kalamazoo Very often, visitors feel like they have finally found a home at Unity and want to become a member. We are very open about participation at Unity, and if you feel you belong here, then you do. You may join a ministry team, start a new ministry team according to our policy, sing in the choir, volunteer to help with one of our special events and participate in many, many ways.
Becoming a formal voting member is an important step in our spiritual growth. We strongly recommend you attend Unity of Kalamazoo for at least a year before considering becoming a formal voting member of the church. We request that you take these three types of classes plus the membership class:
1. Lessons in Truth or Discover The Power Within You
Both are classic books of what we teach in Unity and awaken your own consciousness to greater spiritual growth. Our intention is to present one or both of these classes each year.
2. Keys To The Kingdom, Tithing Time Talent and Treasure For Prosperity (4T’s) or other prosperity courses that teach tithing. These are classes addressing our perceptions about abundance and prosperity and creating more open channels of blessing in our practices of giving and receiving. Both classes require tithing 10% of your income for the duration of the class. If you attend all the classes, do all the exercises and tithe 10% of your income and do not feel that your experience blessed and transformed your life, your tithe will be happily refunded to you. You will be responsible for your class materials which normally run around $40.00 or less.
3. I of the Storm, 21 Day by Day Reconciliation, or Loving What Is The class discussions, books and workbooks suggest exercises to assist us in practicing taking full responsibility for our experience of life. It concludes with an agreement titled Agreeing and Disagreeing in Love, which defines how we handle conflict in our congregation.
The Membership Class consists of one session per week for four weeks, each 1 ½ hours long, taught by the minister. They are normally held on four consecutive Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. Anyone may take the class, even if you are not sure whether you want to join the church. If at the end of the class you decide to become a full voting member, you will be celebrated by the congregation in a moving ritual on the following Sunday morning.
